Analysis of Sociolinguistics Aspects on YouTube Video

here is I am. Welcome back to my blog. For this time, I would make a new content about sociolinguistics. 

This blog is to fill the sociolinguistics lecture task for final exam assessment. The task is about analysis video from youtube, you can choose whatever you want. I analysis video from Leonardo Edwin’s youtube channel, how or what the aspects of sociolingistics on his youtube. The video has tittle Tur Asrama Kampus di Amerika (Bellevue College Dorm Tour). For the content of video. The video describes how the culture. He shows how the situation on the college dorm. The main purpose is to know the sociolingustics aspects on the video.

Then, here is the points of the video that I would analysis :
       a.  What is the video talking about.
       b. What is the sociolinguistics aspects that the video has.
       c.  How can it occurs.
     d. How many people on that video and their names.
      e. Which one native Indonesian language and which one non native Indonesian language.
       f.  The way they are talking (boy and girl).
   g. Which is the language that they use to communicate in America.

Okay, before I explain about the video, I will give a little information about Leonardo based on his youtube description. His name is Leonardo Edwin. He is from Batam, Indonesia. he is born in 2000. And now he is study in America.

So, here the explanation of my analysis, enjoy your time.


Analysis Video 

The video is from Leonardo Edwin’s youtube channel. He is from Indonesia that study in America. I choose his content that has a tittle “Tur Asrama Kampus di Amerika (Bellevue College Dorm Tour)”. For the content of video. The video describes how the culture. He shows how the situation on the college dorm. In this video, there are four people, Leo and his friends; Moe, Olphelia and Chiriro.   

Then, I do a analysis of his content video based on sociolinguistics aspects. What the sociolinguistics aspects on his video. On that video, he uses two language, it is indonesian and english language. So he can use thean one language. He is bilingualisme, Indonesian is his native and english is his second language. He uses English when he talks with his friends, sometimes he uses Indonesian for the viewers. But, he puts the Indonesian subtitle for his viewers, because most of his viewers are from Indonesia too.

In additional, the way Leo talks and his friends talk is different, because of their gender. Leo’s voice is more strong than the girls. The girls is more smooth when they speaks. The gesture also is different between them. They are in same age, Leo and his friends. So, how they speaks to each other is more informal.   

When he talks, his accent is American accent. On that video he is always switching or mixing his language for communication. So there is code switching and code mixing on that content. Some of his friend too are not from America, so they all use english as native language for their communication. On that video also has language shift aspect, because he changes his native language (Indonesia) for communication to his friends.

The example of the code mixing and code switching :

On the first video, he uses Indonesian language as introduction, the he switch to English when he asks his friends. So sometimes, he uses English for his friends and sometimes he uses Indonesian for the viewers. Moreover, he said dormnya, when he speaks Indonesian language.

   Leo: make a video, jadi kita buat video disini guys.


Conclusion

To conclude, on the video there are several aspects or elements of sociolingustics. Those include code mixing, code switching, social accent, the language varieties, language choice, gender, and age. Leo is bilingualism based on the video and he uses English for communicate. He is Indonesian native language.
